A Family Love Adventure

February 22, 2016

Information is everywhere and available 24/7.

What's needed instead of more information are ways to turn "information" into "transformation". This is done through emboding information and taking inspired action.
This Valentine's Day, I took inspired action and did the process I described in my last blog "How to Make This Valentine's Day the Best Ever". But instead of just creating a special date with my husband, we decided to express and show our love as a family.
In today's celebration video , you'll see the final product of how we used our family's personal love language of "quality time" to create a "Family Love Adventure". Using creativity, cut out valentine hearts and an old paper bag we created a treasure map of activities that strengthened our family love and a day we will never forget!
If you would like to create you own "love adventure", follow the three steps below.

How to Create Your Own Family Love Adventure

Step One:
Discuss Gary Chapman's 5 Love Languages and ask each member of your family how they best feel and receive love. They can rank the love languages in order of importance or just choose one.
Step Two:
Plan an activity to practice and embody that love language. In our family, we all loved spending "quality time" together, so creating one big day of fun was how we chose to embody it.
If you all have different love language preferences, look at your ranking and see if something stands out. For example, maybe you all have "words of affirmation" listed as one of the top three.
Step Three:
Put your creativity cap on and make this activity fun!
For example, if "words of affirmation" is a common theme for all of you, create simple "love note boxes" from paper bags. Take time to decorate them together (quality time) and place them on a table or window sill. Encourage family members to put "love notes" with affirming words and appreciation in the bags for one week. Then at the end of the week come together (more quality time!) and read them aloud.
Another tip, ask each family member to write their preferred love language on their bag and then tell them to put "love coupons" in the bags for things like "a big hug" (physical touch", "pick up your dry cleaning" (acts of service), or a drawing (gifts and tokens).
Each day we have so many opportunities to share and express our love for each other. May these ideas inspire you to create moments of "transformation" daily!
