Singing Ourselves Into Being

My daughter crawled onto the bed, obviously upset. There was some conflict going on with her friends and like mothers everywhere, I tried to council her, give her advice, see her side and get her to see theirs.

The more I talked, the more she pulled away from me...and into herself.

Suddenly I realized I just needed to stop talking, She didn't need some clever strategy or my sound advice..she simply needed to remember who she was.

And so I curled up next to her, stroked her hair and sang "her" song...the song I wrote for her when she was in my womb.

The sun and the moon
The stars in the skies
All are reflected in your loving eyes
Whole and complete
A gift from above
We surround you with our love.

When I finished, she turned to me and said, "That's exactly what I needed Mom."

The Power of Song

This song is a gift. A gift from my intuitive knowing, a gift for my daughter to carry through her lifetime.

The melody came to me one day while I was pregnant and I crafted words for her so that she would always remember her Essence self.

I sang it while I was pregnant, I sang it the first time I held her and looked into her eyes, I sing it still whenever she needs to be reminded that she is an amazing gift, made from the stars.

Singing Ourselves Into Being

I write about this song in The New Feminine Evolutionary, a powerful book co-authored by myself and 21 other women sharing vulnerable, authentic and personal stories...each contributing to awakening the Feminine Evolutionary within.

My chapter is about this song and the songs we sing to honor great moments...births, sorrow, grief, joy, expectation, longing, celebration.

Through this process of writing, something new was birthed in me...As I wrote the final words, I realized I had created my own birthing song, our birthing song...the song to help us remember who we really are...amazing gifts, made from the stars.

A song of hope. A song of sisters rising. A song of sisters reaching in to reach out and heal the world. A song of the heart, reminding us of our own innate power, love and wisdom. A sacred song, guiding us from transition to crowning, until at last, we marvel at our own evolution, cradled gently in our arms. A song birthing the New Feminine Evolutionary into being.

I am SHE who tends the flame.
I am SHE who stands in the fire.
I am SHE.

This song, "I Am SHE", is a song of longing, declaration and deep love. This song is the birthing song for all of us to welcome in and claim the New Feminine Evolutionary within. And these statements, transmissions and declarations are reminders of who we need to be in order to "stand in the fire".

I dedicate this song to all those suffering in our world right now, those who feel disempowered, who feel lost and without a place of sanctuary; to all those who have suffered from catastrophic disasters.

I dedicate this to my brother, Tony, who with his magic, in an instant, crafted the beautiful music after I simply sung him the melody. I dedicate it to him and all the men in the world who are holding space for the the Divine Feminine to arise and heal our world.

And finally, I dedicate this to women and girls around the world, who have a longing to make an impact, but may not know what to do, or how to do it. This song is a reminder that the wisdom is inside you, in the heart of your feminine fire...the power, love and wisdom which can change the world.

In times like these, it's easy to feel powerless and wonder, what can I do?

I believe the first thing to do is claim your power, sister...and sing your song.

It's not always easy. In fact, it can feel downright terrifying. Right now, I feel a little vulnerable sharing this song with you...my small self and ego worried that you won't like it, you might think it's dumb, or that it's a bunch of nonsense.

But my mythic self and Essence, knows the truth. What is real here is that the world needs the voices of women to share their unique songs and declare their longing for a better world.

As we sing the songs of our liberation, of our love and our power, we inspire others to do the same.

And so I start today...my ego trembling and unsure, my Essence empowered and lighting the way.
