Have you ever been stuck for months or even years, trying to make a decision?
I recently came to my own coach feeling stuck about what direction to take to grow my business. I have coaching programs on both feminine power and relationships and wondered, “Which should I choose to offer as a group coaching program?
I had already done all the typical “coach-like” practices on myself like identifying the pros and cons, surveying my audience, and even feeling into which one lit me up the most.
The result?
I stayed stuck because depending on my energy and enthusiasm that day, the answer would change. I’m really passionate about helping women ignite their unique feminine power AND helping women create satisfying family and personal relationships. I just couldn't make up my mind and I wanted my coach to guide me to the "right" direction. I wanted to know the “right” answer.
So like a great coach she asked a simple, but powerful question: What if the answer was just “yes”?
What?
This simple question blew my mind. I didn't really even understand it. It felt terribly uncomfortable…and also very exciting.
Quivering, I answered, “Well, it would be both so EASY and absolutely terrifying.”
I liked the “easy” part, but why was "yes" so terrifying?
Terrifying because I couldn’t know or see all the pieces.
Terrifying because I couldn’t plan for the worst…or the best.
Terrifying because I would have to give up control.
Terrifying because I would have to trust and give up the "how".
Terrifying because I couldn’t plan for the worst…or the best.
Terrifying because I would have to give up control.
Terrifying because I would have to trust and give up the "how".
Wow.
If I just say “yes” all kinds of magical and mischievous things could happen and that made staying stuck much more appealing…and safe.
Or did it? Something began to break loose in me and somehow I began to get unstuck.
The idea of a simple "yes" lit me up.
Yes, was terrifying, but it was also exciting and full of possibility.
Yes, was freeing and limitless.
Yes, activated my own inner Muse...that part of myself that still believes that all things are possible.
This powerful, archetypal energy of the Muse is light, spontaneous and expansive. And this is available to all of us, and most often embodied in us when we were children.
Do you remember that Muse-y, child inside of you?
I do. She used to say yes to everything.
Want to be an astronaut today and fly the monkey bars to Jupiter? YES!
Want to make a wedding cake out of mud and get married today? YES!
Want to be the greatest ballerina of all time and dance Swan Lake in the woods? YES!
That young part of me knew the magic of saying yes. She fully believed in the magic of possibility and letting go of the need to know the “how” of getting things done.
Somewhere along the way, the voice of my Muse got lost in the loud noise of all the things I “couldn’t/ shouldn’t and wouldn’t” do. To better remember and hear my muse, I pulled out a photograph of my 5 year old self and bought a “Yes” button that says “yes” in 12 funny voices. Now every time I start to get that stuck feeling, I hit the button and “yes” rings out all around me!
During this full moon, I invite you to take time to celebrate your own inner Muse and her powerful, magic word, "yes". Celebrate all the times “yes” has led you to something beyond your wildest dreams.
Tonight I’m celebrating the “yes” I said on my wedding day even with no guarantee of happily ever after: the “yes” I said to having children even though I had never been a mother before: the “yes” I said to becoming a coach, even though I didn’t know whether I’d be good at it or could build a business out of it.
And right now, I’m celebrating the “yes” that led me here to remind you of your own magic and possibility.
Your inner Muse holds the key to opening your own belief in possibility again. She’s there with her magic wand or super cape or fairy dust to dispel the need to know "the how" and simply say “yes”. She knows that once you say a full-bodied "yes" and really-truly-cross-your-heart mean it, then anything is possible.
May the magic of your own inner Muse light the way to your next "yes"!
